Holocaust 101
This workshop is designed to support teachers who fall under Kentucky's mandate for instruction about the Holocaust and other genocides (all public middle and high schools) and includes these topics:
- Guidelines for teaching the Holocaust;
- Jewish history in Kentucky;
- Teaching the Holocaust with survivor stories; and
- The history of Antisemitism.
Effective Classroom Management
Classroom management “or lack of” is also the number one reason why educators are leaving the profession. This training will help to decrease discipline challenges, and improve classroom rapport. You will learn how to meet students where they are and lead them where they need to be, capture attention, and promote deeper learning, based on strategies and techniques that provide teachers with the support and tools they need for success.
Using Primary Resources to Drive Instruction
Primary sources help students relate in a personal way to events of the past and promote a deeper understanding of history as a series of human events. Because primary sources are incomplete snippets of history, each one represents a mystery that students can only explore further by finding new pieces of evidence. This training helps teachers know how to unlock students' curiosity by effectively finding and using primary sources.
Youth Thrive Framework
Youth Thrive is a research-based framework that utilizes a strength-based approach to teach professionals about Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences.
This training familiarizes educators with the Youth Thrive Framework and models necessary strength-based practices that should be present in every classroom.
Guiding Staff Through Vertical Alignment
While every curriculum benefits from clear expectations and goals, it’s important to plan changes to vertical alignment in education to ensure success in the classroom. When students can reach milestones and meet or exceed expectations, teachers can focus on other areas of development, including social and supportive activities. It’s essential for schools to set a plan for course review and the support needed to help teachers deliver the course materials and skills students need to succeed. While the beginning of every year requires a quick overview of the previous course’s material, vertical alignment provides a more consistent learning structure so preparatory review of previously covered material is minimized.
Vertical alignment is a great way to prepare teachers and students for the next year. While a large-scale curriculum review doesn’t help teachers plan day-to-day classes, it provides a more robust framework for better planning, evaluation, and learning outcomes.
